These are intimate lanes and arcades, such as the elegant Byram Arcade, with small high quality shops waiting to be explored. Restored Victorian buildings and pedestrian areas in Dewsbury town centre also make for a pleasant shopping environment. In Holmfirth there is a wide range of art and craft galleries and artists studios. Famous names in wool and textiles, painting and pottery can be found, plus all manner of top quality merchandise. Markets
Textiles are much in evidence at the districts markets. Most notable is
Dewsbury market with over 350 stalls at the Wednesday and Saturday markets
and a smaller bric-a-brac market on Fridays. These are complimented by
additional stalls in the Victorian market hall, open from Monday to
Saturday. The rich history of the textile industry lives on and there are bargins to be had at the many mill shops around Kirklees. A vast range of fabrics, clothing and furnishings are available at discount prices from these outlets. More details on Mill Shops is available from the Tourist Information Centres. |
