Bagshaw Museum 1

Inside this picturesque, strangely gothic residence, you are surrounded by the sights and sounds of past times and far away places. Time and space mean nothing when you can step straight from an Ancient Egyptian Tomb, into the tropical enchantment of the rainforest, taming the mythical beasts of the four continents on your way. And the local history collections and exotic decor of the mansion will keep you spellbound.

Bamforths Postcard Collection 2
Picturedrome, Market Walk, Holmfirth

Bamforths produced early comic postcards and sentimental cards in Holmfirth, which were sent to loved ones during the First World War. The saucy sea side cards feature over-large ladies and hen-pecked husbands. Bamforths story is revealed on 'Holmfirth Pier', a themed walkway. There are also shows of some of Bamforths early films.

The gallery hosts changing exhibitions of art, mainly by local artists and societies.

Butterfly Conservation Centre 4

The centre houses a rich assortment of native butterflies, many of which are close to disappearing in the wild.

Colne Valley museum 6
Cliffe Ash, Golcar

Experience the atmosphere of these former hand weavers cottages and the working life of the mid 1800's at the colne Valley Museum. Visit the loom chamber, spinning room and the gas-lit clogger's shop. There are frequent demonstrations of traditional activities and crafts by museum members.
Open: Sat, Sun & Bank Holidays 2pm - 5pm.

Dewsbury Minster 7

The Minster dates back to Anglo-Saxon times when Dewsbury was said to have been visited by the 7th Century missionary, St Paulinus. The church includes a heritage centre and exhibitions on the church's colourful history, some unique Anglo-Saxon sculpture and stained glass. Former curate Patrick Bronte is commemorated with a plaque inside the Minster.

Dedicated to the magical theme of childhood, Dewsbury Museum will not only take you back to yours, it will give you insight into the childhood of your parents, your grandparents and even your own offspring! See (and hear) the world through the eyes of a century of children in the Growing Up in Dewsbury exhibition and be transported back to war-torn Britain with the 1940's classroom. With it's collection of toys spanning several centuries, Dewsbury Museum really is for anyone who's ever been a child!

With exhibitions, events and activities throughout the year, Huddersfield Art Gallery offers a lively programme showcasing he best contemporary art from regional, national and international artists. In addition, the Kirklees Collection contains over 2000 items representing British Art through the last 150 years.

Kirklees Light Railway 10

Ride on Yorkshire's Great Little Steam Train which will carry you through the lovely South Pennines on an old country branch line. A quarter mile tunnel adds to the thrill of this nostalgic eight mile journey. Frequent special themed events take place throughout the year.
Open: All weekends, most school holidays and everyday from Spring Bank Holiday to early September.

National Coal Mining Museum for England 12

A unique opportunity to descend 450ft underground to discover the hidden secrets of a real coal mine. Walk to the coal face and see the working life of the coal miner from the 1820's to the present day. On the surface, exhibitions tell the history of mining and the real cost of coal to mining communities.

North Light Gallery 14
Yorkshire Technology Park, Armitage Bridge, Huddersfield.

Described as 'one of the largest and most spectacular on the wave of new art spaces' the North Light Gallery has multi-use exhibition and performance space, plus a cafe. The gallery aims to show major exhibitions of the best in 20th century and contempory art. Throughout the year the North Light Studio holds classes and has a programme of Saturday workshops.

Oakwell Hall & Country Park 15

One of England's most charming historic houses, this beautiful, Elizabethan manor house has delighted visitors for centuries. Visiting in the 19th Century, Charlotte Bronte has featured it as Fieldhead in 'Shirley'. Build in 1583, the hall is set out as a 1690's home, giving insight into late 17th Century life. 100 acres of the original grounds are now managed as a country park and the innovative and unique Discover Oakwell exhibition introduces children to it's environment. The site boasts excellent visitor facilities, a cafe, sa well stocked shop and an adventure playground.

Red House Museum & Bronte Gallery 17

One of England's lesser-known, yet award winning, historic houses, it will delight you with it's insight's into 19th Century middle class-life and fascinate you with it's Bronte connections. Mary Taylor, daughter of the house in the 19th Century, was a close friend of Charlotte Bronte, who visited often and featured the house as Briarmains in "Shirley". "The Secret's Out" gallery explores Charlotte's connection with the Spen Valley and a more recent permanent exhibition - Spen Valley Stories - relives the 20th Century memories of local people.

Skopos Motor Museum 18

This historic mill holds some of the most magnificent and diverse pieces of motoring genius ever assembled. From the Benz Patent Motor Wagon of 1885 to the newest jewel, the gleaming Ferrari F40. The museum boasts the only surviving Bramham, (Chassis number 128) and restoration bays where you can watch the experts go about their meticulous restoration work.

Standedge Visitors Centre 19

Standedge Visitors Centre is next to the highest, longest, deepest canal tunnel in Britain! Opened in May 2001, the centre houses an exciting, interactive exhibition telling the story of the heroic canal and tunnel construction.
Take a ride on the state of the art trip boat and travel into the depths of the tunnel, as your guide brings to life the story of how it was built with little more than picks, shovels and gunpowder!

Tolston Memorial Museum 20

Tolston Museum draws a vivid and intriguing picture of Huddersfield and it's people, from the prehistoric to the present. Each layer of Huddersfield's past is revealed in it's exiting displays. Unearth the remains of the Bronze Age, visit the Industrial Revolution and then it's all aboard for "Going Places" - Tolson's transport exhibition, plus a year-round programme of special exhibitions. There's fun for toddlers too with Ronnie the Raven's Puzzlepath.
