from the high Pennines near Holme Moss (look for the TV mast) along the
River Holme towards Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. Holmfirth is the main
town in the valley which is ideally situated for all the major centres in
the north of England. Holmfirth is known to many people for its "Last
of the Summer Wine" fame, the place where the BBC film the long running
comedy series, which has been broadcast on the small screen for more than a
quarter of a century! The tour guides are often be seen leading large
groups of people to view "Sid’s Café" and "Nora’s
Steps". The Holme Valley is also very popular with walkers and wildlife
enthusiasts. Apart from the town itself and the breathtaking scenery,
there are some wonderful attractions waiting for the visitors. These range
from the CragRats Theatre and Café Bar on Dunford Road; the Picturedrome
Cinema and postcard museum in the centre of town, and the fabulous Summer
Wine Exhibition and TV location tours direct from Sid’s Café! You will
never go hungry in Holmfirth, there are lots of eating places, restaurants
and take-aways catering for a wide variety of tastes.
