Welcome to Kirklees
This area of Pennine Yorkshire will be familiar to millions of people as the
setting for 'Last of the Summer Wine' and 'Where The Heart Is'. But there's much
more for you to discover in Kirklees.
The dramatic moorland and green valleys of the Peak District and South Pennines
provide the perfect backdrop to the district and lots of opportunities to
explore some wonderful countryside. Lively town centres boast modern shopping
areas, specialist shops, busy markets and millshops, all set alongside fine
Victorian architecture.
The area has a strong cultural and literary tradition, including a close
association with the Brontes at the historic Oakwell Hall and Red House. A world
class contempory music festival, exciting theatre and music seasons, and vibrant
events are earning the area a growing artistic reputation.
Whatever the reason for your visit, be it work or pleasure, we hope you will
enjoy your stay in Kirklees.

Wining and Dining
Huddersfield is home to some of Yorkshire's top restaurants. Traditional fare
and innovative menus can be found in many pubs in the district, offering good
food and great value. Huddersfield's pubs scored 8 out of 10 in a review by FHM
magazine and there's a choice of night-clubs where you can dance into the small
hours. If you prefer something a bit quieter, why not visit one of the many
country pubs where you can sample proper Yorkshire beer and hospitality.
